The next day, it was Sugandha's first rasoi. She never really got to experience anything related to being a proper married woman.
She woke up early, and Rudra was still asleep. She cautiously made her way out.
She took a shower, it relaxed her tired body. She didn't bring much of her clothes with her. She decided to just drape a plain red sadi that she had.
She put on a big red bindi and smokey kajal. She loves applying kajal to her eyes, it makes her feel a bit prettier.
She immediately got to work. She wanted to amaze everyone with her skills. She started singing along with cooking. That's one of her hobbies, she's obsessed with listening to music.
"Areey wahh, you sing so well," Nalini said, aka Rudra's sister.
Sugandha let out a sweet smile. "Ji… I'm not that good."
"No… you're underestimating yourself. Your voice is just like the real singer of that song." Tulasi said, aka Rudra's bhabhi.
Sugandha looked down with a flustered face. No one ever compliments her, so this was a very rare occasion. She wasn't used to this kind of attention and positive comments.
The ladies helped her a bit with the cooking. There isn't much to do around the house, since a maid was appointed recently.
Everyone sat down to eat, Sugandha was excited to know about their opinions on her cooking.
"I'll not touch the food that is cooked by this dirty woman," Anuja said with pure rage.
This comment instantly brought tears into Sugandha's orbs. Her heart ached immensely, the word "dirty woman" was something that she had been hearing for the past 5 years. But… still, it makes her well up with tears of sadness every time.
Rudra noticed her shift in the mood. He took a deep breath, he was prepared for this. 'First, it was Bhabhi and now my wife.' he thought.
"Then don't consume it, mother. Other family members will finish it." Rudra said and started eating without waiting for anyone.
It was like fuel to the fire, Anuja's heart burned more intensely. She just walked out from there.
Everyone was relieved that she didn't create a big scene. Sugandha glanced at Rudra through the veil, with tears of sadness, her face now also held a smile of resentment.
Sugandha's pov
My Jeth Ji gifted me a gold chain, I refused to have it multiple times, but he wasn't backing down at all… So I accepted it. I look up to him, he's like a big brother and the father that I dreamt of having.
I stole a glance at Rudra ji, he averted his gaze as soon as I looked at him. He's so difficult to understand. He seems so strict, angry, and intimidating on the outside, but he turns into this shield of protection whenever someone comments on me, even to his mother.
Then I watched the brother pair ready to leave for their work. Before leaving, I watched him signal me to come closer. I was super confused but complied anyway.
He cleared his throat first and started speaking. "Woh, umm.. I don't have anything to gift you, currently. But, uh, I know that women love flowers. So…" He forwarded a red rose towards me.
My face turned into a shock + blush combination. I hesitantly took the flower, but… My fingers grazed his skin lightly, which sent a shiver down my spine.
"J…ji, s..shukriya." (thanks) I muttered lowly.
Then Rudra left immediately without saying anything. Was he embarrassed because of it…? I should've been more careful, I can't make a bad impression.
~ Time skip ~
It was now evening, we women didn't have much to do, so we started gossiping. It was like I made friends again. The last time I played with my friends was when I was a kid.
Later on in life, no one ever invited into their house or to play. Probably because of their parent's warnings. High-caste people don't let low-caste people get near them or touch them, which was like an everyday occurrence for me. But… these people were the opposite of what I had expected. I guess there are a few good people in this dark world.
"Sugandha bhabhi, eat this sweet. It tastes amazing." Nalini said, but I denied it.
From my observation, she was so enthusiastic and energetic. Even with my refusal, she fed me some forcefully. Some of it fell on my sadi, staining it.
"Oh no!! I'm really sorry, bhabhi." Nalini said.
"Nalini, your mischievous habits get everyone in trouble." Tulasi said with a huff.
"It's fine, I'll go change. You guys continue chatting." I said.
I walked into my room… yeah, my room. I sighed, I didn't have many clothes here, and now another one got stained. I started changing my sadi, with my inner thoughts in play mode.
Rudra's pov
I had to return back home to retrieve some documents. How can I forget such an important thing? I parked the motorcycle aside and stepped inside the house.
I was cursing myself inside and entered into my room. As soon as I looked up, my eyes almost bulged out.
Fuck! I forgot that I'm a married man now, and I'm sharing my room with a woman.
She was literally half naked, and her back was facing me. I could literally make out the moles that she had on her back.
When I heard her yelling at me, I was back to my senses.
"W…what is this?? P…please go outside." She spoke while covering herself loosely with a sadi.
"W…woh, i… i just c..came her—" I couldn't complete my sentence without stuttering, wow… She has this effect on me for absolutely no reason. I never stuttered once in my entire life.
"W..why are you still here and watching m..me??" I heard her saying.
Ughh, I can't make this anymore awkward. I walked out and shut the door behind me immediately.
My heart was racing, I had never felt this feeling. I rubbed my chest to calm down, and my face and ears seemed all red now.
After a few minutes or so, I saw her opening the door. She had her veil on so I couldn't read her feelings.
I opened my mouth to speak, but I just couldn't. Not after the scene that I witnessed, how can I face her now? She may think that I'm some creep.
I hurriedly walked past her and got the papers. I didn't stay there any second longer and left. She just stood in the same position and place all the while I did this.
I made everything so embarrassing and awkward between us, fuck.
